What is Petsure?
Petsure is an insurance policy specially designed to protect pet owners against the high costs of veterinary treatment and some other potential costs of pet ownership.
Petsure offers high levels of cover for low premiums.
In the UK premiums for insuring pets totalled £110 million in 1998 and is set to double by 2005. However, Petsure is committed to providing low cost cover and its premiums have only risen by an average of approximately 50%, compared to a market average of 118%.
What pets can be covered?
Petsure currently only provides cover for dogs and cats, although there are plans to extend it to other pets.
What will I be insured against?
The main parts of the cover are: Veterinary fees up to £5,000 for each and every treatment your animal needs, including consultations, operations, medication and x-rays; the cost of your pet should it be killed in an accident, lost or stolen; the cost of third party damage or injury caused by your pet up to £1,000,000; holiday cancellation costs up to £1,000 if you are unable to travel because your pet is ill; kennel or cattery fees up to £500 if you are taken into hospital for more than three days.
There is no limit to the number of claims you can make.
What is an excess?
Certain parts of the cover require the policyholder to pay a small amount towards the claim. In most cases this is £50.
Unlike most other policies, which charge upwards or £125 excess, Petsure only charges £100 excess against third party injury or damage claims on all its policies. The minimum excess under the veterinary fees section is £25.
How much does it cost?
The cost depends on whether you are insuring a cat or a dog and the age or the animal.Premiums start from £5.50 per month for a cat and £8.50 per month for a dog but depends on the level of cover required

Is there an age limit?
Pets must be 10 years old or younger when a policy is first taken out. Policies can only be renewed for animal older than 11.
How do I pay?
Premiums can be paid monthly by direct debit to your bank account or annually by a debit card.
